Album Cover Design & Illustration

The concept process for Serpent was an exhilarating journey of collaboration between Kool Keith, the label, and myself. The album's overarching themes of hypnosis and the film Serpent and the Rainbow served as our guiding inspiration for the album's visual identity. Drawing on Ghana movie posters for inspiration, we were able to create a unique and bold aesthetic that perfectly captures the essence of the album. Working closely with Kool Keith and the label, we were able to bring his vision to life and create an album cover that is both stunning and meaningful. It was a true privilege to work with such a talented and visionary artist, and I am grateful to have been a part of this incredible project.

Drawing the illustration of the zombie bride with the snake coming out of her mouth was both challenging and exciting. The scene was inspired by a famous moment from the film Serpent and the Rainbow, and we wanted to capture the same sense of tension and horror in our illustration. It was important to us that the illustration was both beautiful and haunting, and we spent a lot of time fine-tuning the details to achieve the perfect balance. We drew inspiration from vintage horror movie posters and Ghana movie posters, incorporating bold colors and intricate details to create a truly unique and striking image. Seeing the final product on the album cover was incredibly rewarding, and I am proud to have been a part of creating an image that perfectly captures the themes and mood of the album.

After presenting the initial draft of the zombie bride illustration to Kool Keith and the label, we received feedback that they wanted the image to be even darker and grittier to match the tone of the album. We took this feedback to heart and went back to the drawing board, revising the image to incorporate more decay and grit. We added more texture to the zombie bride's skin, making it look more weathered and rotten, and added more details to the snake, making it look more menacing and realistic. We also made some color adjustments to give the image a darker and more foreboding feel. The final version of the illustration perfectly captures the mood of the album, and it was incredibly rewarding to see our revisions make such a big impact on the final product.

Designing the layout of the credits in Adobe InDesign was an important part of creating the album's visual identity. We wanted the credits to be presented in a way that was both informative and aesthetically pleasing, so we spent a lot of time fine-tuning the layout. Using InDesign, we were able to experiment with different fonts, sizes, and colors to create a layout that perfectly complemented the album cover. We also made sure to include all of the necessary information in a clear and organized way, making it easy for fans to learn more about the artists and collaborators who worked on the album. Overall, using InDesign allowed us to create a professional and visually stunning layout that perfectly complements the album's overall aesthetic.

Working on the the Serpent album cover was a thrilling and rewarding experience. From collaborating with Kool Keith and the label to incorporating feedback and making revisions, we were able to create an image that perfectly captures the mood and themes of the album. To add an extra touch of hypnotic appeal, we also incorporated a spiral pattern into the background of the illustration, which adds an extra layer of intrigue and depth to the overall image. Finally, we made the decision to turn the illustration black and white, which not only adds to the overall aesthetic of the album cover but also adds a sense of timelessness and classic horror that perfectly fits with the themes of the album. All in all, designing the Serpent album cover was an unforgettable experience and I am honored to have been a part of such an incredible project.
